Bill Hedrick is a proud native of East Texas, born and raised in Kilgore and is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. After his honorable discharge in 1974, Bill earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas at Tyler and promptly opened a photography studio in downtown Kilgore. For the next 20 years, Bill photographed specialized in studio photography as well as commercial photography before selling the business in 1997 and concentrating on commercial/industrial photography and continues to do so to this day.
His studio quickly became one of the leading photographic studios in the region, complete with a color lab and art department so that everything was done “in-house.” It was during this time that Bill was encouraged by his mentor to earn a professional degree through the Professional Photographers of America and, in fact, he earned both degrees offered by that national organization and became the first and only Master of Photography in Kilgore’s history and went on to earn the Photographic Craftsman degree as well.
In 1997, he was offered the position as Publishing Editor of THE PHOTOGRAPHER Magazine, a trade magazine distributed to members of the Texas Professional Photographers Association. Since that time, he has brought this publication to national acclaim and has won first place in national competition several times. The popularity of this publication has resulted in it being distributed to other states throughout the country today.
